I preferred one take after two changes
I preferred one Curio voiceover rewrite, but sentence structure and pause timing changed together.
The first take sounded to me like a row of separate items. The rewrite sounded more like one connected thought. It cut the script from 22 short sentences to six longer ones.
The silence changed at the same time. Curio had made the first take's sentence gaps nearly equal. That pause edit was switched off for the rewrite. The preferred sound cannot be assigned to either change.
The pitch check located a sound difference
Curio's internal pitch check compared the end of one sentence with the start of the next. It marked sharp rises at those boundaries.
Most boundaries in the first take had a sharp rise. None in the rewrite did. I was the only listener who judged the pair, so the pitch pattern appeared beside one person's impression, not a shared rating.
The measure can locate where the voice changes. It cannot show by itself that a boundary sounds like part of a list.
Speech research explains why boundaries matter
Prosody is the pitch, timing, and stress that help listeners group spoken words. Reviews led by Anne Cutler and Lyn Frazier discuss lab research on how people hear words as parts of phrases.
A pause or pitch shift can mark where one spoken group ends and another begins. Each full stop gives a narrator a new place to start. That link makes sentence boundaries worth hearing.

A separate set resisted the simple sentence rule
The later Curio set used another script, narrator, and video format. Editors joined some sentences, yet sharp pitch rises remained at nearly every full stop that was left.
That set was a separate observation, not a repeat of the first two takes. It showed that joining sentences did not always remove the measured rises.
Curio therefore treats the pitch count as a warning that calls for another listen. It does not reject a take.
Listener ratings can test what the measure means
A controlled comparison would make four versions. The short-sentence script and joined-sentence script would each be recorded with and without the pause edit. The narrator, facts, and video format would stay fixed.
Listeners who did not know which version they heard could rate how list-like each one sounded. I could then test whether those ratings tracked the marked boundaries.
The measure locates boundaries where pitch changes. The controlled comparison tests whether ratings track those marks.
If the ratings do not track them, a sound changed without changing the list judgment. That mismatch would improve the measure without blaming the voiceover.
