Why are you taller in the morning than at bedtime?

Measure yourself right after waking, then again at bedtime. Research has found adults can lose more than a centimetre over a day.

Your spine is a stack of bones with soft discs between them. All day, gravity and activity press on the discs and squeeze fluid out, so they shrink.

Lying down at night takes that pressure off. Fluid soaks back into the discs, and by morning you are taller again.
